Qantas and Virgin Australia stack on NZ Flights for summer

The Flying Kangaroo will operate an additional 95 flights from Brisbane to Wellington and Christchurch between December  and February to meet school holiday demand. Qantas has also announced a fifth weekly flight between Sydney and Jakarta and daily services between Perth and Singapore  in the holiday period, to give customers “more choice”. “A key part of our strategy is listening to and responding to our customers’ needs and developing an agile and flexible  network which offers more options during peak periods,” said Qantas Executive Manager of International Sales, Stephen  Thompson. “We are really pleased to be able to meet demand for travel between Brisbane and both Wellington and Christchurch with the  return of direct services during December and January.” The announcement follows on from Virgin Australia’s decision to add seasonal flights from  October 25  out of Brisbane to  Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin and Well...

Huge Ball of Light Hits Air New Zealand Flight NZ5070 A massive ball of light has hit Air New Zealand two minutes before it was due to land in Auckland.  Jen Donoghue, a passenger in the plane, described seeing a big ball of light hit the plane with a loud, massive bang.  Donoghue recalled that she had only been in four Flights in her life with the fourth plane struck by lightning. When she saw the light and heard the sound, she thought the plane's engine had blown up. According to reports, Air New Zealand Flight NZ5070 was on its way to Auckland from Palmerston North. When the plane, an ATR 72 turboprop, was struck, a Flight attendant sitting close to the cockpit was quick to react. She told the New Zealand Herald that other passengers inside the plane began freaking out. The Flight attendant was confused while she was looking around the plane.
